You’ve decided your brand needs a film. You ask three production houses for a quote. You get ₹2 lakh, ₹8 lakh and ₹35 lakh for what sounds like the same thing.

Below are the real price tiers, what pushes a quote up or down, and how to set a budget before you brief anyone. I’ve spent over eight years behind the camera and in the edit, and I’ll tell you where the money goes.

Brand film cost in India: the 2026 price tiers

Most brand films in India fall into four budget tiers. The tier depends on where the film will run, who is in it and how many days it takes to shoot.

Tier Typical budget (production only) What you usually get Best for
Starter ₹50K – ₹3L 1 shoot day, small crew, simple edit Instagram, YouTube, early-stage brands
Digital-first ₹3L – ₹20L Scripted story, cast, 1–2 days, colour grade, sound design, cut-downs D2C launches, performance and brand campaigns, OTT
TV commercial ₹20L – ₹75L Broadcast specs, larger crew, known talent, several locations Regional or national TV
National ₹75L – ₹2Cr+ Celebrity talent, heavy VFX, multi-city shoots Big national campaigns

What drives the cost of a brand film?

Six things decide most of the quote. A change in any one of them moves the number more than the choice of camera ever will.

  1. Script and concept. A finished script lets a producer price the job accurately. A vague brief gets padded, because everyone quotes for the worst case.
  2. Shoot days. Every extra day pays for the crew, gear, location and food again. On TV-scale shoots, each additional day can add ₹4–10 lakh.
  3. Talent. New faces and creators are affordable. Celebrity fees range from about ₹1 lakh to ₹80 lakh and more.
  4. Locations and art. Two locations in one day cost less than two days in one location. A well-dressed set often beats an expensive location.
  5. Post-production. Editing, colour, sound, music licensing and VFX. Heavy VFX or animation can double a budget on its own.
  6. Where it will run. A TV commercial needs broadcast specs and clearances. A film for Instagram and YouTube does not.

City matters too. Mumbai production rates run about 20–35% higher than Delhi NCR (Cybertize Media).

Hidden costs that don’t show up in the first quote

The first quote rarely covers everything. Ask for these line items up front:

  • Travel and crew stay
  • Location permissions
  • Weather-day cover
  • Music licensing
  • Extra language versions
  • Platform-specific edits
  • Rush-delivery fees

List from iDREAMZZS.

The cut-downs are the one that catches brands most often. A 60-second film is one asset. The 6-, 15- and 30-second versions, in 9:16, 1:1 and 16:9, are what your ads actually run on.

TV commercial vs digital-first film: which costs less?

A digital-first film costs far less.

  • Digital-first film: ₹3–12L. Typical range for a professional digital film.
  • TV commercial: ₹15–20L+. Starting point, before airtime.

If you need both, shoot them together. Capturing a TV and a digital version in one shoot adds only about 15–20% (Cybertize Media).

How much does a brand film cost in the US, UK or UAE?

For global brands, the same film usually costs several times more to make in the US or UK.

US agencies quote $10,000 to $100,000+ for brand films, and Clutch reports an average agency project of about $42,000 (Vidico). A US director of photography runs $600–$2,000 a day. The average UK videographer day rate is £427 (YunoJuno, via Create & Elate).

That gap is why US, UK and UAE brands shoot in India or hire Indian crews for edit and post. You pay Indian rates for world-standard work, as long as the team has the craft.

Is a brand film worth the money?

For most D2C brands, yes, as long as the film is built to be cut into ads.

  • 85% of people say a brand video convinced them to buy.
  • 91% of businesses use video in their marketing.
  • 71% of marketers say 30 seconds to 2 minutes works best.

How to set your brand film budget in 5 steps

Start from what the film has to do, not from a number. Then work backwards.

  1. Name the one job. Launch, trust, or ad fuel? One film can’t do all three well.
  2. List where it will run. Platforms and aspect ratios decide your cut-downs and specs.
  3. Lock the script before you ask for final quotes. Quotes on a locked script are cheaper and easier to compare.
  4. Plan the cut-downs in the shoot. Shoot hooks, alternate lines and vertical frames on the same day.
  5. Keep 10–15% as contingency. Weather, reshoots and last-minute changes happen on every shoot.

The real cost is a film nobody remembers

A ₹5 lakh film that people remember is cheaper than a ₹1 lakh film they scroll past. Budget for the story first, and the camera and crew follow from that.
